Every student in Idaho is required to take a college placement exam as a graduation requirement. The SAT is a nationally administered/recognized college entrance exam that evaluates math, reading comprehension and reasoning, and writing skills. Your results will be used to measure your readiness for college.
That being said, colleges expect that many students will take the exam more than once. In fact, it’s encouraged. You have up until the first few months of your senior year to reach your target score.
Depending on what major, or program of study you are choosing to pursue after high school, some colleges may require an additional SAT subject test as a prerequisite before you can declare a major on your college application. If you believe that may be the case, check the SAT and ACT sites for subject exam dates to ensure you don’t miss out on the opportunity to apply to the program of study or college of your choice.

If your plans after high school include attending a 2- or 4-year college you might also consider taking the ACT. Rather than testing only math and reading, the ACT also tests your English and Science Skills.
